The brief

The existing garage doors on the property were an original timber set — well past their working life, with rot through the lower rails and around the glazing. Eddy, the homeowner, wanted a like-for-like replacement that kept the character of the property but brought the specification up to modern standards. Two things at the top of his list: proper security, and Accoya as the timber choice.

What we specified

Full Accoya pair, with the panels insulated and the frames rebated to take double perimeter seals. Glazing is internally beaded across the six top-light panes on each leaf. The whole set was sprayed in-house to a British Racing Green matched to the existing property colour scheme, then hung on black powder-coated T-hinges with matching Coastal door furniture and a full multi-point locking system.

What's underneath the paint

Accoya was the right call. It's a modified softwood with dimensional stability well beyond traditional timber, a 30-year above-ground guarantee, and a paint hold that lasts roughly three times as long as unmodified softwood. On a south or west-facing driveway that takes reflected sun and weather, it's the difference between refinishing every three to four years and refinishing every decade.

Security spec

Multi-point locking with hook bolts top and bottom, concealed steel dead bolts at head and threshold, an anti-snap Euro cylinder and reinforced strike plates as standard. Internal beading on the top-light glazing means the panes can't be removed from outside.

"They're loads better than what I was expecting them to be. I'll be coming back to you for the house windows next."

The finished doors sit flush against the sandstone quoins and hold their line without a hair of movement — which is what you get when the timber is right and the frame is fitted true. Eddy has already spoken to us about the house windows.
