The short version: these terms apply when you order handcrafted timber windows or doors from us. They set out our deposit structure, your 14-day cancellation right on distance sales, our warranties, and what happens if either of us needs to make a change. If anything here is unclear, call us on 01977 680 121 and we'll talk you through it.

We design, specify and install handcrafted timber windows and doors — including sash windows, casement windows, storm-proof windows, entrance doors, heritage doors, French doors, bifold doors, garage doors and stable doors — using Accoya, engineered hardwood and oak. We are Certass registered installers.
These terms apply to any order placed by a consumer for the design, specification, supply and installation of timber windows and doors by Bailey Hague Joinery Ltd. They apply alongside — and do not remove — your statutory rights.
A binding contract is formed when we confirm your order in writing (by email or a signed order confirmation) following your acceptance of a quotation. Please read your order confirmation carefully and contact us straight away if anything is incorrect.
Quotations are normally valid for 30 days from the date issued, after which prices may need to be revised. Prices are based on the survey, specification and access arrangements known to us at the time of quoting. All prices include VAT unless stated otherwise.
If, after our detailed survey, we find that the specification needs to change (for example due to structural issues, non-standard openings, or access constraints not visible at quotation stage), we will discuss this with you and agree any price adjustment in writing before proceeding.
Because every window and door we design, specify and install is made to measure for your property, we ask for payment in three stages:
| Stage | When due | Amount |
|---|---|---|
| Order deposit | On confirmation of your order | 40% of the contract price |
| Pre-installation payment | Before your windows or doors are delivered and installation begins | 50% of the contract price |
| Final balance | On satisfactory completion of the installation | 10% of the contract price |
We accept payment by bank transfer, cheque or card. Deposits secure your place in our production schedule and cover the cost of design, specification and materials committed on your behalf. Once your order enters production, your items are made specifically to your property's measurements and cannot be resold, which is reflected in the cancellation terms below.
Final balance is due on the day installation is completed to your satisfaction. If a snag or minor remedial item is identified at completion, we will agree a reasonable timeframe to resolve it — this does not normally affect payment of the final balance unless the outstanding item is significant, in which case we will agree a fair retention with you in writing.
Late payment: if payment is not received within 14 days of the due date and no agreement has been reached, we reserve the right to charge interest at 4% above the Bank of England base rate on the overdue amount, in line with the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998 principles applied fairly to consumer accounts.
If you ordered at a distance — for example online, by phone, or during a visit you did not specifically request to your home — you have a legal right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013.
Made-to-measure items: because our windows and doors are made to measure and manufactured to your specification, the Regulations allow us to ask you to expressly agree that your right to cancel ends once production begins, since bespoke goods cannot be resold. If you ask us to begin design or production work within the 14-day period, and you later cancel, we may deduct our reasonable costs already incurred (survey, design and any materials ordered or cut for your property) from your refund. We will always explain this to you clearly, and get your express agreement, before starting work within the cooling-off period.
If you placed your order in person at our premises following a visit you arranged (for example, a showroom appointment you booked yourself), the 14-day distance cancellation right does not apply in the same way, but you remain protected by your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 described below.
Before production, we carry out a detailed technical survey of your property to confirm measurements, structural details and access. Your order is specified against this survey. Please make sure someone is available to give us access, and let us know about any relevant building constraints (listed building status, conservation area rules, structural concerns) at the earliest opportunity.
If your property is listed or in a conservation area, it is your responsibility to check whether planning permission or listed building consent is required, unless we have specifically agreed in writing to handle this on your behalf.
We will give you an estimated production and installation timeframe when your order is confirmed. Typical lead times for handcrafted timber windows and doors range from 8–14 weeks from survey to installation, depending on specification, timber (Accoya, engineered hardwood or oak) and current workload — we will confirm your specific timeframe in writing.
We will agree an installation date or window with you in advance. Installation is carried out by our own team. We will keep you informed of progress and let you know as soon as possible if timescales change — for example due to weather, timber supply, or matters outside our control (see Force Majeure below).
Time is not "of the essence" for the purposes of this contract unless we specifically agree an essential deadline with you in writing (for example, ahead of an exchange of contracts on a house sale).
If you would like to change your specification after your order is confirmed — a different timber, a hardware upgrade, additional openings, or similar — let us know as soon as possible. We will confirm any change in cost or timeframe in writing before carrying out the variation. Changes requested after production has started may not always be possible, or may incur additional cost to cover materials or work already completed.
Similarly, if we need to propose a variation (for example because a structural issue is found on survey, or a specified timber section is not available), we will discuss this with you and agree a way forward before proceeding.
Every installation from Bailey Hague Joinery is backed by:
Guarantee documentation will be provided to you on completion, including registration details for the HomePro IBG. Guarantees are subject to reasonable care and maintenance of your windows and doors (see the maintenance guidance provided with your installation) and do not cover damage caused by accident, misuse, or work carried out by third parties.
These guarantees are in addition to, and do not affect, your statutory rights.
As a consumer, you have legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 in relation to goods and services that are not as described, not of satisfactory quality, not fit for purpose, or not carried out with reasonable care and skill. Nothing in these terms affects those statutory rights.
If something goes wrong, please contact us first using the details above so we can put it right — see our Complaints Procedure for the steps we follow.
We will not be responsible for delay or failure to perform our obligations where this is caused by circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to extreme weather, fire, flood, pandemic, strikes, shortages of timber or hardware, transport disruption, or changes in law. In such cases we will let you know as soon as reasonably possible and agree a revised timeframe with you.
We aim to get every installation right first time. If you are ever unhappy with any aspect of your order, please see our Complaints Procedure, which explains how to raise an issue with us, how we handle it, and your right to refer unresolved warranty or workmanship complaints to Certass or make a claim under your HomePro Insurance Backed Guarantee.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for any liability that cannot lawfully be limited or excluded. Subject to that, our liability for losses you suffer as a result of us breaking this contract is limited to losses that are a foreseeable result of our breach, and we are not liable for losses that are not foreseeable, that are not caused by any breach on our part, or that are business losses (as these terms are for consumer, domestic customers).
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, and you may also be entitled to bring proceedings in the courts of the part of the UK you live in.
If you have any questions about these terms before or after placing an order, contact us at info@baileyhaguejoinery.co.uk or call 01977 680 121.
